VET
Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VET in Schools), is an exciting new program that combines general VCE studies with vocational education and training as well as 'hands on' practice in industry. The program enables Year 11 and 12 students to complete a nationally recognised vocational qualification and of course, the Victorian Certificate of Education.
VET in Schools meets expressed needs of industry and commerce. Work placements provide a unique opportunity for students to become 'job ready' with skills and knowledge relevant to today's workplace. Over 300 Victorian secondary schools have incorporated VET in Schools into Year 11 and 12 programs. In the Geelong region 24 schools participate and in 1999 seven hundred Geelong students took part in the VET in Schools.
It's a fact - VET in Schools multiplies your opportunities!
Research by the University of Melbourne indicates an outstanding proportion of VET in Schools students achieve successful post-school outcomes, either with employment or further study.
Students say that the VET in Schools program gave them:
- Improved chances of entering a TAFE or University
- Clearer career and study pathways after the VCE
- A range of job skills
- Greater confidence in tackling the labour market
By bringing the real world into VCE studies and linking classroom theory with 'hands on' industry practice, VET in Schools can give you a chance to see what is in the future - now!
