Year 9 'Thyme and Plates' Evening


Who are you going to bring to the table?

On Wednesday 22 August, Saint Ignatius College would like to invite Year 9 sons/daughters and one of their parents/guardians to an evening that continues to build on the great work of Bill Jennings from the 'Time & Space' evenings at Year 7 and 8.

When you participated in the 'Time & Space' programs in Year 7 & 8, Bill encouraged you to set a date in twelve months time to continue the conversation. Saint Ignatius College is providing you with that opportunity.

Some of the most valuable conversations that can be had with your son/daughter occur at those times that are less structured and deliberate. Preparing and sharing a meal at a table together are definitely one of those times. Saint Ignatius College would like to provide an opportunity for parents/carers and students to work together, share a meal and at the same time give back to the community.

Leading Geelong Chef, Graham Jefferies, will facilitate the evening. Graham is the
co-owner of the very successful restaurant Tulip & Merne. Tulip is one of a select few restaurants that have received an Age Good Food Guide Chef’s Hat over the past three years. Tulip is one of the finest dining experiences in Geelong so we are very fortunate to have Graham support Saint Ignatius for this evening.

Graham will instruct the mother/father and son/daughter on how to cook a Indian Curry, utilising some specific cooking techniques. The pair will then prepare four servings of the dish which will be packaged up at the conclusion of the evening for the under privileged and those in need around the Geelong area. Graham will prepare the dish earlier so the parent/guardian and child can share a meal while their dish is cooking.

At the beginning of the evening the group will also have a brief presentation from a representative of the Give Where You Live foundation. Give Where You Live is a local organisation who support the marginalised and those in need. The meals you create will be donated to the Give Where You Live foundation and distributed as needed.

Format: 6.00pm – 6.15pm: Presentation from rep. Give Where You Live
6.15pm – 6.40pm: demonstration of meal and preparation
6.40pm – 7.30pm: cook & clean up
7.30pm - Dinner and discussion
8.15pm – Package up food and final clean up
8.45pm - Farewell

This is a great opportunity to further develop our community connection, provide community service hours to our students and continue to nurture that important relationship between parent/guardian and child.

The evening is capped at 25 pairs so it is important to register your interest ASAP to ensure you do not miss this great opportunity (Year 9 students only). 

Email Ms Tory Wood, the 'Time & Space' Coordinator at to confirm your position. If the interest exceeds the amount of places available we will have a cancellation list and also consider the possibility of running another evening.
