Third term is known to be a very busy term in the performing arts department. This year is certainly no exception.
Each day students are attending the many dance, acting, band and choir rehearsals that are run during our recesses and lunchtimes. Many of our talented students are also rehearsing during lunch times, afterschool and Sunday afternoons for our college production “School of Rock” which will be held in September.
There will be more information on this show in the next newsletter.
I am always so impressed by the students’ dedication to their music making, acting or dancing and I am very thankful to have so many outstanding performing arts teachers working at our college.

This annual concert displays the dedication and talent of our amazing students and music staff!

Approximate running time: 135 Minutes no interval.
Monday 12th August at 6.30pm at the Potato Shed.
Showcasing our student's talents and songs to parents and friends of the College.
You will hear our Vocal Ensembles, Duets and Solos perform a range of musical styles from Country & Western, Pop, Musical Theatre to Classical.
We are so proud of the enthusiasm and vocal development of our students this year.
Come along and be inspired - “Music is Food for the Soul” .

August 15th 7 to 8pm in the Saint Ignatius College Art Gallery.
The evening’s title is ‘Daring Greatly’ which is a topic inspired by a speech given by the American President, Theodore Roosevelt and more recently a re-created quote by author Brene Brown, who also published her latest best seller titled ‘Daring Greatly’.
Brene was inspired to write this novel after being shamed online for being openly vulnerable. Students have been challenged to think about just what ‘Daring Greatly’ is to them.
This presentation will run for approximately an hour and will conclude with a supper.
Performance is an important aspect of Public Speaking, and this evening will be a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase the skills they have acquired over the year.

Performers from the Junior Concert Band and the Intermediate Symphonic Winds are performing at the Geelong Schools Movement and Music Festival on the 13th of August.
We look forward to the event with great anticipation as our ensembles share in the opportunity of performing at regional events at a world class venue.
Tickets are $5 per person (children under 2 free, sitting on lap) and can be purchased on-line from www.gpac.org.au, by phone on 03 5225 1200 or in person at GPAC box office.'
Special congratulations to Year 11 music student Sarah Bensted. Sarah (pictured in the Gallery with her award) is presently studying VCE music and taking flute lessons with Mrs Sally Hobbs.
Last weekend, Sarah participated in the Victorian Band Solo League Championship. Sarah won first place for the Junior Woodwind section with her flute recital.
Sarah will be performing a solo at our annual Instrumental evening on Tuesday August 6th at GPAC.
