MACS Child Safety and Wellbeing Framework

MACS Child Safety and Wellbeing Framework

The Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Child Safety & Wellbeing Framework provides the overarching foundation for how Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools ensures the safety, wellbeing and flourishing of all children and young people across its schools. The document outlines MACS’ child safety commitment, purpose and objectives, and situates child safety at the heart of its Catholic mission and the MACS 2030 strategic plan. It articulates a clear framework built on child safe cultures and four practice principles — Inclusion, Belonging and Empowerment; Cultural Safety and Competence; Governance and Accountability; and Capability and Innovation — which align with the Victorian Child Safe Standards and Ministerial Order requirements. The Framework also explains how these principles are applied in practice through policy alignment, leadership accountability, risk management, staff capability building and continuous improvement, providing schools with a shared language, clear expectations and practical guidance to ensure child safety is embedded in all aspects of school life.

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools is actively supporting the implementation of the Child Safety & Wellbeing Framework through the “11 Months, 11 Standards” initiative. This structured, year-long approach provides schools with targeted resources, guidance and professional learning aligned to one Victorian Child Safe Standard each month, enabling a clear and manageable rollout across the year. By sequencing the standards in this way, MACS supports schools to embed child safety practices progressively, reflect on current practice, and plan purposeful actions each term. This initiative strengthens consistency, builds staff capability, and ensures that child safety remains a visible, practical and sustained priority in every school community.

The Child Safe Standard 1 attachment provides information in relation to how MACS schools implement Child Safe Standard 1.
