Class of 2016 - Madelaine Clifton

Since February 2016 Maddie Clifton, Class of 2016, has worked in the Xavier Centre at the college and been integral to the Sports department as assistant to the Director of Sport, Andrew Philp. She was invited to join the Sports team after Year 12 last year as she had significant involvement in Sports at the College and in the community, and had been Senior ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ last year at the College. Mr. Philp explains that her leadership qualities and high levels of initiative shown in Sporting areas helped her gain the position. Feeling that she was not quite ready for a planned university experience, she took on the role and has relished and loved every moment here with us. She will be embarking on a Nursing degree next year at Deakin University hoping to become a Paediatric or Oncology Nurse in the future. Her role here has involved work as an administrator for the Sports department; booking grounds permission forms, teams, equipment, uniforms, and coaching netball, basketball, water polo and volleyball. She speaks enthusiastically about her experience as apast student back at school“ I have loved it all –it has been awesome” she exclaims. “ I enjoy helping students develop their skills in my coaching roles and I enjoy accompanying the students to the various grounds around Geelong. I have been amazed at how much work goes on behind the scenes in order to have a streamlined sports program especially the whole school big events of Athletics and Swimming.”

We are excited that our Old Ignatians have been invited to join with the old collegians of St. Patrick’s College, a college founded in 1854 and the first school run by the Irish Jesuits in Australia and operating for 103 years until its closure in 1968.

St Patrick’s Old Collegians Association (SPOCA) have invited our Old Ignatians on a special St Patrick’s College Tour of Ireland from 9 to 19 May 2018. The tour will focus on the Jesuits in Ireland, on Irish political and literary events and on the life of St Patrick. Details are available from the Principal’s PA.
