Senior Boys Football Team Success

Tuesday 30th July

Saint Ignatius: 19.11.125 defeated CSEN: 2.3.15

There was plenty of motivation for both schools heading into the quarter finals of the Herald Sun Football Competition.

Playing against a representative team from the Christian School Education Network (CSEN), the boys needed to impose themselves early in the game to set the scene.

Under perfect weather conditions, it was Saint Ignatius who made the most of it’s opportunities in front of goal to produce a solid four quarters of football to secure the opportunity to play in the semi-finals of the Herald Sun Country Shield competition.

Throughout the game, contested football was aplenty but with better ball use, creating space and with the use of our outside runners, Saint Ignatius proved to be too strong on the day.

There were a number of key performers for Saint Ignatius, with Kobe Annand’s performance securing him the best on ground honours and being awarded the Jimmy Bartel medal.

Teammate Ben Gillians was also instrumental up forward, kicking 7 goals. Other players who contributed towards the win for Saint Ignatius were Mitchell Clarke, Jarvis Durbidge, Jack Preece, Flynn Young and Nicholas Ash.

The team will play in the semi-final at Trevor Barker Oval in Sandringham on Wednesday 4th September.

Thank you to the parents and staff who made the effort to support the team at Chirnside Park in Werribee (VFL Ground).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Andrew Philp (Sports Coordinator), who is always supportive and does an exceptional job in organising all sporting events for the College, Michael Timms (Acting Principal) for his support during the day, Max Kos (Runner) and Leah Du Vallon (Sports Trainer).

The Herald Sun Competition allows our boys to showcase their talents and to be potentially recognised by talent identification personal. Thanks to Michael Keem (National School Programs Coordinator) from AFL House for securing the professional venues and for coordinating our game.

Congratulations to all of the students who participated and represented the College.
